Down on the (Mini) Farm and Home
Hi! I'm Sandy, aka "Grandma Peaches"!
Hi! I'm a retired senior single woman, born and raised in Florida, now transplanted to Mineral Bluff in the north Georgia mountains. Since 2014 the small farmstead has slowly developed. My grandson calls me "Grandma Peaches" and you can, too! I have small animals who give me farm fresh eggs and food and make life fun! I like DIY, canning and preserving, scratch cooking, baking, sewing, herbalism, gardening, and other homestead skills. My farm and home are geared toward preparedness and self sufficiency. As a single, older woman, my goal is to show that it IS possible to develop self-sufficiency skills later in life, and it IS possible to start a homestead.
The Homestead
My little homestead sits on an acre and a half in Mineral Bluff, off of Salem Rd., with one acre developed. It's a happy place, busy with animals going through their daily routines, where you can sit on the porch in the summer sipping wine and watching the sunset after a busy day working the animals, canning, working, harvesting, and generally enjoying the busy days..
The Animals
The little animals are what makes my homestead happy! Chickens, rabbits, a couple of barn cats named Calvin and Hobbs..... it's always interesting!
The chickens have such personalities. I gave up naming them all, but some of them have names -- Sam and Brewster are the roosters, then there's Miss Priss with the funny hairdo, Mrs. Orloff and Other Mrs. Orloff are Russian Orloff chickens. My grandson named two of the chickens Sam and Randolfina -- two layers that I hatched and raised here, thanks to a broody hen named Lois. There is always activity - whether they are hunting and pecking for bugs, or digging holes for dust baths in the sun.
The rabbits are sweet and gentle, and I love seeing the new babies leaving the nest box. It's fun watching them grow.
